THE CHRONICLES OF PERIMET
Perimet: The Magiistos

It is rumored that the moon of the Seven Rings was not always thus, a shattered orb. The oldest wood sprites whisper the Magiistos broke the moon in the final battle with Rego Malvarma, to prevent him from moving between the Rings at will, as they once did.

The Magiistos remain a mystery to Perimetins, even my own people, the wood sprites. Their history is written in secret books that they allow no one to read, but some theorize that they are ancient elemental sprites representing earth, air, fire, and water, which gives them their power over nature. Others theorize they come from beyond the Rings, if there is such a place. The mechanism of their defeat by Rego Malvarma is a mystery lost to time, but they have served the Regos of Perimet since. Magiistos do not wear masks, and no one has seen any more than a flash of white within their deep hoods. Our oldest stories speak of powerful magicians who could travel between the Rings at will, but that bled themselves of their life force by traveling too much and became the Magiistos. In the end, we accept their unique place in our society as the Rego’s closest advisors and a last line of defense should the barbarians of Roko ever challenge Perimet again.

How do we know that there are Seven Rings? Our only direct knowledge is of our own realm and the Ring of the Roko Mountains. From the barbarians we know of the Ring of the Great Grass Plain because the mountain people have some congress with the denizens of that Ring. Beyond that, our only knowledge comes from the Magiistos, who tell us little and hold their knowledge close. The Ten do not share their books and do not contribute to the scholarship surrounding the natural world. It is reasonable, however, to take them at their word that there are Seven Rings arrayed with Perimet at the center.
